Britive supports multiple authentication methods for extra security (step-up authentication). Step-up authentication can be configured to access profiles that require verification. Britive supports OTP and WebAuthn authentication methods.

  • OTP: Uses a time-based, one-time password/passcode for user authentication.

  • WebAuthn: This authentication allows you to use a biometric method, such as fingerprint reading or face recognition. It also supports the security keys or any device-specific authentication.

Configuring MFA Devices

  1. Log in to the Britive portal.

  2. Click Manage Account from the upper-right user icon.

  3. Configure the authentication method under the MFA Devices section.

  4. When registering an MFA device for the first time, Britive sends a verification code to your email. Enter this code in the Step-up Verification window before proceeding.

  5. Register an MFA device:

    1. OTP device: You can register only one OTP device. See Registering a new OTP Device for more information.

    2. WebAuthn device: You can register multiple WebAuthn devices. See Registering WebAuthn for more information.

  6. To register a new device, complete step-up authentication using your existing MFA device.

    1. Verify with WebAuthn: The web browser or device prompts you to verify using one of the following options:

      1. Fingerprint

      2. Face recognition

Security key (e.g., YubiKey): Enter the Recovery PIN and click Confirm.

    2. Verify with OTP: Enter the OTP from the authenticator app.

Registering a New OTP Device

  1. Click Register to register any new device for OTP step-up verification.

  2. A QR code is displayed in a Register your verification device window.

  3. Use any authenticator app to scan the QR code. Enter the key manually if you are unable to scan the QR code.

  4. Enter the OTP from the Authenticator app in the Britive portal.

  5. Click Register. On successful verification, the device is registered. The user can not re-register the MFA.

Contact the administrator to change or delete this registered device. Before registering a new device, an administrator must delete the existing device.

Registering WebAuthn

  1. Click Register to register a WebAuthn device.

  2. Enter a friendly name in the Registration Name field.

  3. Click Register to start the registration process.
