Terminology

Broker: Brokers are responsible for handling dynamic permissioning in remote environments. It is a Java application that runs on a lightweight server within a customer’s environment.

Broker pool: A broker pool is a collection of one or more brokers. Broker pools are created and managed within the Britive platform and help provide high availability.

Broker Pool Token: All brokers in one broker pool have the same token, which is exchanged between the broker and the Britive SaaS platform. This token allows the Britive broker to authenticate itself to the Britive SaaS platform.

Resource: A resource is any system/service/server you would want to manage access and permissions for. A resource includes servers (physical, virtual), databases, applications (commercial, OSS, homegrown), and even networking hardware. 

Resource Types: Resource Types are used to define a collection of resources. Each resource created within Britive to be managed by the broker is categorized as a specific resource type. E.g. when leveraging Britive to grant limited access to MySQL databases, each MySQL database can be defined as a resource, and a “MySQL” can be defined as a resource type.

Resource Labels: Resource labels tag resources and consist of key-value pairs, where each key may contain multiple values. Resource labels help with a dynamic mapping of profiles to resources and resources to its access brokers.
