# Microsoft Windows

## Installing Broker on Microsoft Windows

1. Make sure you have completed all generic prerequisites mentioned in the [Prerequisites](/v1/docs/broker-3-0-1#prerequisites) section.
2. Run the *.msi* installer and follow the installation wizard to install the broker as a service.
3. On a fresh installation, the wizard prompts for the *tenant subdomain* and *broker pool authentication token and* writes them into the configuration file, registers the *Britive Broker* Windows service, and starts it.
4. For unattended installs, standard MSI practice applies (*msiexec /i BritiveBroker.msi /qn ...*); *configure broker-config.yml* before starting the service, or install interactively once and image the result. For more details about the configuration file, see the [Configure broker-config.yml file](/v1/docs/brokers-1#configuring-brokerconfigyml-file).
5. A list of brokers is updated on Britive after users download and install the broker package on their system.
6. Start the **Britive Broker** service.

## Upgrading Access Broker

1. Run the desired MSI installer, which upgrades (installing a newer MSI over an existing installation); the existing *broker-config.yml* is preserved, and the service restarts on the new binary.
2. If you are upgrading your broker from version 2.0 and below to 3.0.1, it is supported by the same MSI installer. It stops the old Java service and removes the old files.
